Black Men of Distinction was formed in 2009 in the state of Texas. Initially, the organization had a membership of over 80 persons. The first national meeting was held in July of 2009 in Atlanta. A constitution was ratified and adopted, membership regulations were created, and a dues structure was put in place.
The 2009-2010 was a year of rebuilding. The membership grew from 0-14 with the addition of annual dues. The second annual meetingIn 2008, two internet friends, Harold Dowdy and Dennis Givens, wanted to create an organization for mature Black men to meet and share their experiences. After meeting Milton Wallace, the idea became a reality.
Black Men of Distinction f was held in New Orleans, LA in April 2010.
Black Men of Distinction (BMoD) is a social and civic fellowship of mature, masculine, African-American males. We engage in activities and events that allow us to grow in fellowship with each other, in service to our communities, and into better fathers, sons, husbands, lovers, friends, and citizens.
